Course Description
The essential requirement of today’s standards is that students are able to read complex texts independently and proficiently. This fact challenges teachers to carefully select texts with complexity in mind and pose questions that require students to read the text carefully, to provide evidence from the text, to draw inferences, and to critically rely on consulting the text for answers. In this module, learn how to develop effective close reading instruction, including meaningful and rigorous text-dependent questions, which can help students build independence and proficiency when reading complex texts – a skill that will contribute to their success when pursuing the post-secondary education and careers of their choosing.
